ANDPOP writer Evan Ross stated: "This is the first song on the album written by all five of the boys, and it really shows. “Fool’s Gold” is a deeply personal and sweet song and as an added bonus it has Zayn singing to me for most of it (yes, I believe they boys are singing exclusively to me but a girl can dream, can’t she?)."
